Petsters were created by Axlon, Inc. in the mid-1980s. Petsters, dubbed the "Smart New Breed" by Axlon, were electronic pets who were, according to the Owner's Manual, frisky, obedient, attentive and always ready to play.

There was a major manufacturing flaw in the Petster product line. The quality of the nylon gear was poor and just about all the small Petster line does not work at this time due to that particular cracked and broken part. Too much reground nylon was used in the gear, making it more brittle, especially now that these toys are almost twenty years old.
